The Ghanaian Embassy in Tripoli, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), successfully repatriated 165 Ghanaian nationals from Libya back to their homeland.

The Ministry of Information confirmed that the returnees are expected to arrive at Kotoka International Airport at 1500 hours GMT, as announced in a statement released on Thursday.

This recent repatriation effort follows previous initiatives undertaken by the Embassy and the IOM.

In October, they facilitated the return of 169 Ghanaians from Tripoli to Accra under the Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) program for 2023.

Additionally, a third batch comprising 134 Ghanaian nationals voluntarily returned from Misrata to Ghana on October 10, 2023, also under the VHR program.

The collective repatriation efforts in 2023 amounted to 629 Ghanaian nationals benefitting from the VHR program.

Priority was accorded to individuals in detention centers, those in poor health, families with children, stranded individuals, and destitute persons who required assistance to reunite with their homeland, Ghana.
