Former Ghana defender Joe Addo has commended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for taking  "the right direction" at the just ended 2017 Summit in Cape Coast.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) held a three-day summit last week at Cape Coast to brainstorm on issues affecting the country’s favourite sport and to evaluate ways of improving recent successes.


According to the former Hearts of Oak ace, football in the country will be developed should the nation's football governing body to implement the decisions taken at the summit.

”Yes; finally words have been through to them, they are listening because a lot of people have been saying things they are saying now for the past four or five years. The main thing is, the youth football that how it has been destroyed. Redevelopment is not more in the country,” Joe Addo told Football Legends Night Show on GHOne TV.

"How our league is going down the drain. Our slot at CAF has reduce from two to one. We have been hammering and finally the FA has heard enough and want to do something about it so i recommend them for that. I think it is in the right direction.”

The 3 days Summit brought expects of the game to share ideas and a  number of recommendations were adopted to be put before congress at its next meeting.

Some recommendations made at the 3 day meeting also include:


  • Restructuring of Ghana Premier League and FA Cup

  • Restructuring of players salary in consultation with PFA and Clubs

  • Each GPL team to introduce U-17 teams from next season

  • Serious sanctions for bribe peddlers

  • GHC 20,000 reward for whistle blowers against bribery

  • More support for Women’s Football.
