Players selected for the Gambia national team in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are reportedly unhappy due to unpaid bonuses.

The players, slated for a training session on Tuesday, January 9, decided to boycott the training as a form of protest against the outstanding bonuses owed to them.

Despite fans showing up in anticipation of watching the team train at the Independent Stadium, they were left disappointed as the players chose not to participate.

Head coach Tom Saintfiet and his technical team engaged with the fans, but they expressed their displeasure, urging authorities to address the issue and pay the players.

The fans are hopeful that the matter will be resolved by the Gambia Football Federation, allowing the Scorpions to resume training on Wednesday.

Gambia is placed in Group C at the 2023 AFCON and faces a challenging opening match against defending champions Senegal.

Subsequent matches will see them play against Guinea and Cameroon. The situation surrounding unpaid bonuses adds a layer of tension and concern to the team's preparations for the tournament.
