Dr Johnson Asiama, the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana has resigned from his post.

Dr. Asiama is reported to have sent his resignation letter to the presidency last Friday.

In a letter addressed to the Presidency, it stated that “I wish to submit my disengagement letter from the post of 2nd deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana, with effect from January 1,2018

“ I have enjoyed working with the new team for the past one year and remain optimistic on the prospects of the economy,” the resignation letter read in part.

Dr. Asiama was appointed on the 5th of April 2016 by then-President, John Dramani Mahama.

He rose through the ranks after joining the bank in 1996 from Assistant Director, until his appointment as Deputy Governor.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of  Southampton, United Kingdom, and an MPhil in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon.
