Africa Online Ghana last Saturday needed a penalty shootout to defeat Surfline 2-1 to clinch the second edition of the C Squared Fibre Cup after the final ended 0-0 in normal time.

Africa Online breezed past eight teams on their journey to the finals where they triumphed after winning a nerve-wracking shoot-out at the Burma Camp Sports Complex.

The seven-a-side football competition was contested by nine teams including MainOne, Surfline, Vodacom, Afriwave, AfricaOnline, Busy, Teledata ICT, CSquared, and Jai Mai Communications

With an emphasis on fair play, the matches were officiated by professional referees on the top-quality Burma Camp Sports Complex football pitch.

The Country Manager of C Squared, Estelle Akofio-Sowah described the event as a huge success saying: “It’s been a huge success, the CSquared Fiber Cup is an opportunity for the CSquared team to engage with our stakeholders outside of the usual corporate environment.

She said the competition provided the opportunity for the CSquared team to engage with their stakeholders outside of the usual corporate environment.

“Coming at the end of the year, the tournament is a great avenue for us to let our hair down, have some fun, and relax. What better way to do this than to play football, our nation’s favourite sport? It’s not business all the time.”

Last year, 14 companies represented, with Busy emerging winners in the inaugural Fiber Cup tournament.

The Fiber Cup is CSquared’s annual football tournament. The event is a one-day affair for the company’s stakeholders and customers to gather for a congenial day of football, friendship, networking, good food and music, with the ultimate goal of crowning one Fiber Cup Champion.
