One of the Kwabenya cell breakers has been arrested by police in Asikasu near Asamankese in the Lower West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The suspect who was identified as Emmanuel Kotey escaped with six others after a gang stormed the Kwabenya Police station to free them and killed an officer on duty in the process.

The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told the media that Kotey’s arrest was as a result of a collaboration between the police and the community.

The suspect is to be sent to Accra for investigations to continue.

Kotey’s arrest brings to four the number of the escapees who have been rearrested.

Two of them, Prince Osei and Atta Kojo, have already been jailed for 30 months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to escape from lawful custody and escaping from lawful custody.

The other rearrested escapees include one Kofi Darko who pleaded not guilty to the charge filed against him. The other is Kofi Seshie, who is believed to have been the one who shot the late Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi (posthumously promoted by President Nana Akufo-Addo to Assistant Superintendent of Police) who was on duty that day.
