Ashanti Police strengthen security ahead of christmas

Commissioner of Police (COP) Ken Yeboah, the Regional Commander, announced that 4,200 officers and men were being deployed to ensure strong presence on the streets to prevent miscreants from having their way.

They are from the Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT), Rapid Deployment Force, Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and other divisions.

COP Yeboah said they would be on hand at social gatherings - conventions, entertainment centres and drinking spots.
He reminded the officers and men to ensure high level of professionalism and warned that any act of misconduct would not be accepted.

He added that no one would be allowed to create image problems for the police service.

He advised them to be civil in their dealings with the public and to respect the human rights of arrested suspects – they should not be manhandled.

COP Yeboah called for the people to show good understanding and to cooperate with the police to make society safe for everybody.

They should be bold to flag up suspected criminals and provide credible information to track down and bring those who had chosen to live outside the law to justice.

He repeated the ban on the use of fire crackers and asked all to comply to avoid running into trouble with the law.
He indicated that those who engaged in the sale of the fire crackers, bought and used these would be arrested.

The Regional Commander cautioned against the use of unregistered motorbikes and vehicles after 1800 hours and said offenders would be prosecuted.

The officers and men later went through the streets in what they called “Operation show of force,” to assure the public of their readiness.
