The wife of slain  Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu has shared a heartwarming photo of their first son winning a football trophy with his team.

Marie-Claire Rupio shared the photo on Instagram with his son Joshua Atsupie holding a trophy he won with his Under-9 team, Gosforth Football Club, in the final of the Pro Motiv8 Tournament.

She captioned the picture "will make his dad proud," in a tribute to his father who was killed in the February 6th earthquake in Turkey.

Atsu was found dead under the earthquake rubble in Hatay - Turkey on Saturday 18th February 2023 after days of searching for him.

The Hatayspor winger had been missing for 12 days since the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and some parts of Syria on February 6.

His mortal remains were conveyed to Ghana on Sunday evening via Turkish airline with arrangements being made for interment and the funeral.

Many people sent their condolence message to Rupio and the bereaved family and urged Joshua to work hard on the field to replace his father.

Atsu was capped 65 times by Ghana scoring 10 goals.
