Security agencies in Ghana have arrested three persons over an alleged coup plot to destabilize the country as explosives and other weapons have been seized from the suspects, Information Minister - Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has confirmed.

The items retrieved from the suspects included local and foreign manufactured pistols, AK47 guns, smoke grenades and a long knife.

The issue, since it came up, has attracted divergent views from different people. Some security experts and analysts have even suggested the government should not waste time and resources on this as they believe the ammunitions and weapons retrieved from the alleged coup plotters are insufficient and lack the requisite firepower to overthrow the government.

The latest to add her voice to the matter is popular television host, Oheneyere Gifty Anti. According to her, it looks funny for anyone to think that the ammunitions retrieved from the suspects cannot destabilize the peace we enjoy in Ghana.

"And I am amused that some people think the ammunitions found can not be used to destabilize the country", Oheneyere wrote on Facebook.

Citing Rwanda, as an example, she wrote: "What started the war or conflict in Rwanda? What or which weapons were used to start it? It was words, words on radio and then machetes, stones, knives, guns and arms that the country didn’t even know they had etc., were unleashed".

Oheneyere Anti said it was about time Ghanaians stopped rubbishing everything mainly because of politics.
