Some workers of Dangote Cement in Ghana are angry about the termination of their contracts.

Some junior and senior staff of Dangote Cement had their contracts with Africa’s leading cement producer terminated, for reasons unknown to them.

The affected workers numbering about 50, received their notice of termination on December 8, 2017.

A copy of the termination letter, sighted by Citi Business News said, “We regret to inform you that management has decided to disengage you from its organization. Therefore, your services are no longer required with effect from today 8th December, 2017”.

It added, “You are to hand over all assignments, equipment and documents including your Identity Card in your possession as the case may be, to your head of department and obtain a clearance letter from him/her”.

Finally the letter stated that “Your entitlement will be paid to you on presentation of the clearance letter at the office of the HR and Administration”.

According to the workers, they have been targeted following a sit-down strike to demand salary increment in November.
Speaking to Citi Business News, one of the 50 affected workers revealed that a request for salary increment was at the center of the sweeping termination exercise.

“It was all about the increment of salaries across board for workers of Dangote. But the way and manner in which they’re going about the termination of contracts is beyond our comprehension”.

Meanwhile, information reaching Citi Business News reveals that the workers have been engaging management about salary increment since January this year.

Workers of the company in June 2016 staged a similar protest against the management of the company over their conditions of service.

The workers, then blamed management for failing to implement recommendations in a memorandum of understanding signed between them in 2010 which enjoined management to establish a conditions of service for all workers.
