Ameenu Shardow, General Manager of Dreams FC, has shed light on the club's initial reluctance to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup, citing financial concerns.

Despite securing their spot in the tournament after winning last season's Ghanaian FA Cup, Dreams FC faced hurdles in securing the necessary funds for their participation.

Shardow, along with other management members, initially contemplated abstaining from the competition due to fears of potential financial strain and the historical challenges faced by Ghanaian clubs in African competitions.

"Some of us in management were against the club’s decision to go to Africa because if you look at the record of Ghanaian clubs in recent times in Africa, we thought going to Africa would be counterproductive," Shardow explained on Nyhira FM.

Financial institutions were cautious about providing loans for the venture, deeming it too risky. However, despite these challenges, Dreams FC pressed forward, determined to represent Ghana on the continental stage.

Their decision has paid off handsomely, as Dreams FC has emerged as a shining example of Ghanaian football prowess in the CAF Confederation Cup this season.

The team's remarkable journey includes a historic 2-1 victory over Malian giants Stade Malien in Bamako, marking the first time in 24 years that a Ghanaian club has secured an away victory in the knockout stages of African inter-club competition.

With their impressive performances, Dreams FC now leads their group and is poised to advance to the semi-finals of the competition.

As they prepare for the second leg scheduled to take place in Kumasi, Dreams FC continues to defy the odds and make significant strides in continental football, proving that perseverance and determination can overcome financial constraints.
