Andrew Vortia, lawyer for popular Ghanaian actress, Rosemond Brown, has dsiclosed that both the Attorney-General and the Prosecutor in the actress' case are of the opinion that the 90-day jail sentence meted out to her was harsh.

Thus, both of them agree with him appealing the judgement.

“The Attorney General is of the view that the sentence was a bit harsh. So he asked if I have filed an appeal and I said yes and that I have his backing. It is surprising to note that when the judge inquired from the prosecution what she had to say, she said, the accused person is not known to the court, she is a first time offender, she is also a single mother, and we also pray against a custodial sentence.”

“Those were the exact words captured by the judgement of the court. Even the prosecutor was against a custodial sentence and would have opted for a fine or a caution”, he said.

The actress, known on social media as Akuapem Poloo, was on Friday April 16, 2021 sentenced to a 90-day jail term by an Accra Circuit Court for the publication  of obscene material.

The sentence was met with public uproar, and the lawyer filed an appeal on Monday, April 19.

The lawyer in an interview with Accra-based Citi Fm said the appeal is to make a mitigation plea to ask for a more lenient punishment.

The legal team has also filed  a bail application to keep Akuapem Poloo outside prison while the appeal is being heard and determined.

The actress is meanwile currently undergoing COVID-19 tests before she goes into jail, as her lawyers continue to fight the legal battle.
