A tragic accident claimed the life of 25-year-old Abdul Karim at a mining site in Adiembra, located in the Wassa Akropong District of the Western Region.

The incident occurred around 6:30 am on Thursday, June 13, 2024, according to a police situation report available to Ghanaguardian.com.

Emmanuel Mensah, the operator of an unregistered CAT excavator, was en route to work at a small-scale mining site in Wassa Adiembra.

Upon reaching a particular site in the bush, Mensah attempted to remove a heap of loose sand obstructing his path.

During this maneuver, the excavator accidentally struck Abdul Karim, who was lying on the sand, severing his hand and head and killing him instantly.

Police arrived promptly at the scene and discovered the dismembered body of the deceased lying on the loose sand. The body has been transported to the Wassa Akropong Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Emmanuel Mensah is currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation into this unfortunate incident.
