Host of  Kasapa FM’s ‘Si Mi So’ show,  Akwasi Nsiah has called on the Food and Drugs Authority to revert the ban on both advertisement and Live Presenter Mention (LPM) of alcoholic beverages in the media before 8pm.

Speaking to IBK, the host on “Yenna show”, Nsiah said enforcement of the ban will render thousands of Ghanaians jobless.

“There have been a lot of recent calls on Ghanaians to patronize local goods and services to help local manufacturers and service providers to be able to stay in operation and contribute towards national economic development. These calls have come as a result of the low interest Ghanaians have shown in patronizing local goods and services and the related challenge it posses on the country’s industrial development and ultimately economic development, so with this ban in the media local businesses will collapse.

“I don’t get what the FDA wants to achieve by this ban, they claim this is to ensure that because Children are not influenced by alcoholic adverts in Ghana. The FDA is still using its archaic laws and not updating it.” He added.

Nsiah alleged the FDA has received some amounts of money from foreign companies and some big companies in Ghana to implement this ban.
“The FDA has received millions of dollars from foreign companies like Guinness among others; Kasapreko among local big brands should stop their pathetic act.”

He called on the Food and Drugs Authority and government as a whole to come out with a plan to stop this act.

He furthered that, drinking bars are springing up everywhere in the country, creating lots of job for the youth and patronizing local goods will create jobs to the growing youth, result in industrial expansions and enable domestic industries to compete with their counterparts in the advanced nations.

“The FDA must come again because the result today is that, if the ban is implemented, Ghana will become a huge market for dumped products from Europe and China leading to factory closures, unemployment and poverty. But the question arises whether people in the country just choose not to patronize local goods or there is a ‘problem’ somewhere.”Nsiah added.
