Former Black Stars midfielder Derek Boateng was accosted by the Police for over speeding in Accra during an exercise carried out by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA) and the

The former Fulham player was among 34 other drivers arrested for committing various road traffic offenses.

A statement from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) said the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Accra Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.

“The drivers were arrested driving above the legally specified speed limit of 50 km/hr at which a vehicle could drive in the city with the Laser Cam 4-speed detection device donated to the Accra Central MTTD by the BIGRS through the AMA.

“Notable among those arrested during the operation were former Black Stars player, Derick Boateng and security officers whose identities were not immediately known.”

The statement further revealed that Derek Boateng and the other drivers were fined between GH 480 to GH660 as a penalty for their actions.


He was part of the Black Satellite team that finished runners up in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2001 in Argentina.

Boateng played for the Black Stars for more than a decade and was part of the Ghana world cup squad in Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010

The 38 year old earned over 40 caps for the senior national team.
