The Ghana Football Association (GFA), through its GFA Foundation, will present football equipment and logistics to the Sunyani Male and Female prisons on Monday, July 1, 2024.

This initiative is part of the GFA Foundation-Ghana Prisons Project, which aims to leverage the power of football to promote the wellbeing, reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates into society.

The Sunyani prisons will be the second beneficiaries of this project, following the Senior Correctional Centre (Borstal Home) in Accra.

The donated items will include jerseys, footballs, goalkeeper gloves, football hoses, whistles, caution cards (yellow and red cards), and movable goalposts.

Beyond providing equipment, the project will also facilitate coaching, refereeing, and mentorship training programs for inmates and prison officers.

These programs are designed to foster personal development and provide inmates with valuable skills.

Additionally, the GFA Foundation will organize advocacy workshops to raise public awareness about the negative impacts of discrimination and stigmatization of prisoners, aligning with the Foundation's goal of using football to drive behavioral and social change.

Mr. Malcolm Frazier Appeadu, the Director of the GFA Foundation, emphasized the importance of assessing the training facilities at the Sunyani prisons to ensure the successful implementation of the coaching, refereeing, and mentorship training programs scheduled for later in the year.

Launched on May 24, 2024, by GFA President Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, the GFA Foundation-Ghana Prisons Project continues to make strides in using football as a tool for positive change within Ghana’s prison system.
