President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has confirmed that Ghana has been hit by the third wave of COVID-19.

According to the President, the nation, as of Friday 23rd, July 2021, had its active cases standing at 4521 with 823 deaths.

The President who made this known in his 26th Covid-19 address to the nation, Sunday, July 25, said "as per data available from the Ghana Health Service, it appears that unfortunately, our nation like many others is experiencing a third wave of covid infections…largely driven by the Delta variant of the virus, which, according to the World Health Organisation, has increased transmissibility rates, and, in our case in Ghana, has led, in recent weeks, to a rise in hospitalization and ICU bed uptakes, and, tragically, deaths,”.

He disclosed that government was in the process of "procuring 17 million single doses per person Johnson & Johnson vaccines, through the African Medicine Supply Platform, in this quarter."

Meanwhile, the President disclosed that a total number of one million, two hundred and seventy one thousand, three hundred and ninety-three (1,271,393) doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered so far.

Out of which 865, 422 persons have received a single jab, whereas 405, 971 people have received their full dose of two jabs.
