Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has added his voice to Ghana's search for a new head coach to fill the Black Stars coaching vacancy.

He says that the Ghana Football Association must look out for an experienced gaffer who has strong credentials.

Ghana is without a substantive coach after Otto Addo's six months contract ended following Ghana's elimination at the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

According to the GFA spokesperson, his outfit has received more than a thousand applications to fill the role  with the likes of Kwasi Appiah, Chris Hughton, Hector Cuper, Steve Mclaren all linked to the role.

“We need an experienced coach, someone with strong credentials…Even if he is an inexperienced coach we should be able to identify what the coach has taught the players in terms of their style of play,” Asamoah Gyan said during an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV.

The Black Stars great continued, “You can take an inexperienced coach but make sure he understands the game, someone who will make the people understand his philosophy.

“Someone who can take charge, not someone who takes orders, you have to be strict and take charge of what you are doing.”

The GFA is expected to name a new coach by the close of the month with Chris Hughton tipped as the huge favourite.
