Ghanaian football icon Dan Owusu has underscored the vital need for government assistance for Ghanaian clubs participating in CAF Inter-club competitions, following Dreams FC's remarkable performance in the recent campaign.

Dreams FC, buoyed by their triumph in the Ghana FA Cup, exceeded expectations by securing a historic spot in the semifinals of the CAF Inter-club competitions.

However, their journey was cut short with a narrow defeat to Zamalek.

Recognizing the financial hurdles faced by Ghanaian clubs in African competitions, Owusu emphasized the necessity of government intervention to ease the financial strain on these clubs.

"Investing in African campaigns incurs significant expenses, and it's worrying that our government hasn't stepped in to support our clubs," Owusu expressed in an interview with Kessben FM.

Pointing out the representation of Ghana as a whole when a club qualifies for African competitions, Owusu urged the government to provide financial assistance to ensure the competitiveness of these clubs on the continental stage.

"With clubs grappling with financial constraints and heavily relying on player sales for revenue, it's disheartening to witness the lack of support, especially when these clubs serve as ambassadors for the nation," he added.

Owusu's sentiments echo the sentiments expressed by the management of Dreams FC, acknowledging the financial challenges associated with African competitions despite the club's impressive performance.

As Ghanaian clubs aspire for success on the continental platform, the plea for government backing becomes increasingly urgent to sustain their competitiveness and viability in CAF Inter-club competitions.
