A renowned Ghanaian researcher has made claims that the flag of the United States of America (USA) is cumbersome and blurred from afar.

John Amoah, said that though he had made this observation for a long time, his observation was made clear at the just-ended Brazil Olympics Games opening when participating countries displayed their national flags to show their love and support for their respective countries.

The researcher made a case of the flag being cumbersome by comparing the American flag to that of countries such as Switzerland and Japan who have only two features on their flags, Nigeria Germany and Russia who have three features and Canada who has four features on their national flag.

"Many other countries have simple appearing features in their various national flags. But the US flag has as many as sixty four (64) features in the design. The flag is made up of thirteen (13) red and white horizontal stripes, fifty (50) tiny looking and very difficult-to- arrange separated stars, squeezed in an above blue cornered small one quarter space of the entire flag. That makes the US flag very complex." The Ghanaian researcher asserted.

According to the Ghanaian researcher, the USA's 64 characters makes their flag look blurred from afar. He emphasised on the difficulty American school children would have in understanding and interpreting the numerous features.

Mr Amoah went on to tip the Ghana national flag ahead of the American flag highlighting the ease with which one is able to appreciate the four-feature flag of the Republic of Ghana.

"One other disturbing aspect again of the US flag design is that, I do not think the school children of USA, their leaders of tomorrow can easily draw that complex flag. A survey can be done to ascertain the truth of my assertion. In Ghana, I think almost every school going child can easily draw the Ghana flag with only four(4) features. Many other countries kids will be capable to do same. What about the USA?" He quizzed.

The flag of the United States of America, often referred to as the American flag, is the national flag of theUnited States of America. It consists of thirteen equal horizontal stripes of red (top and bottom) alternating with white, with a blue rectangle in the canton (referred to specifically as the "union") bearing fifty small, white, five-pointed stars arranged in nine offset horizontal rows of six stars (top and bottom) alternating with rows of five stars. The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 states of the United States of America, and the 13 stripes represent the thirteen British colonies that declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain, and became the first states in the US. Nicknames for the flag include; The Stars and StripesOld Glory and The Star-Spangled Banner.
