Ghanaian striker Abdul-Aziz Yakubu showcased his scoring prowess for Rio Ave in the Portuguese Liga despite their 2-1 defeat to FC Famalicao on Friday.

Yakubu found the back of the net for the second consecutive game, providing a bright spot for Rio Ave in an otherwise disappointing result at the Estadio Municipal de Famalicao.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian opened the scoring for Rio Ave in the 14th minute, calmly converting a penalty kick to give the visitors an early lead in the encounter.

However, Famalicao responded swiftly, with Venezuelan forward Jhonder Cadiz finding the equalizer just three minutes later after a pass from Brazilian player Sorriso.

Cadiz continued to be a thorn in Rio Ave's side, securing victory for the home side with his second goal in the 66th minute, sealing a comeback win for Famalicao.

Despite the defeat, Yakubu's goal highlighted his importance to Rio Ave's attacking lineup since his return from a loan spell in China. In six appearances in the Portuguese top-flight, Yakubu has now scored twice, demonstrating his goal-scoring prowess and impact on the team.

Former Ghana international Emmanuel Boateng also featured in the game, starting for Rio Ave before being replaced by Fabio Ronaldo in the 70th minute.

While Rio Ave ultimately fell short in their bid for victory, Yakubu's consistent contributions upfront offer encouragement for the team as they navigate through the challenges of the Portuguese Liga.
