Ghana’s security agencies, made up of the National Security, the Armed Forces, the Police Service, the Fire Service and other emergency service providers, over the weekend carried out an anti-terrorism simulation exercise in Accra.

The exercise, which lasted for about five hours, demonstrated the tactical and intellectual preparedness of the security services in dealing with any potential terrorist attack.

The simulated scenario was to mimic a real live terrorist attack at a hotel resort at Nungua in the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, the Director of Counter-Terrorism of National Security, Retired COP George Asiamah, said the exercise was part of numerous capacity building activities lined up to boost the morale of security personnel in the wake of terrorist attacks in neighbouring countries.

“It is a training exercise for all of us; the security agencies, the emergency, the general public and the media because the media was also even given some training on how to respond to terrorist activities.

“We told you that you [the media] are our allies,” COP George Asiamah added.
