The government of Ghana has taken an initiative of settling a GHC 400,000 debt owned by the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale to a former Headmaster.

The Headmaster of the School, Mr Lionel Mahama had sued the GHANASCO for not paying his salaries and for denying sacking him as far back as in 1997.

The court however had seized the vehicles belonging to the Secondary school and was ready to be auctioned for settling the debt owned to the Headmaster.

The amount owned him by the school stood at GHC 200,000 but has currently to an amount of GHC 400,000 after his death.

The High Court in Tamale presided over by Justice Lawrence L. Mensah has ordered in April 2013 for the immediate payment of the arrears owed him in full but Mr Mahama did not live to see the judgment passed in his favour.

Failure on the path of the school to settle the debt has lifted the amount to double the initial amount.

He said, “I got evidence that the ministry of Education and the GES are processing the cheque and that it will be paid by the second week of March or third week of March”.

The money is now expected to be paid to the family of the late headmaster who are currently residing in Bolgatanga in the Upper East region.

Speaking on at a Speech and Prize giving day organised in the past week at the school, Alhaji Cambodia indicated that the government was paying the arrears of the school as judgment debt and emphasized that the government means business.

He said when he referred the current situation of the school to the President, he immediately consulted the Minister of Education Hon. Opoku Prempeh to highlight it in the budget for 2018 and has been approved by Parliament.
