Legendary former Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan has told the Black Stars to stick to their game plan and not seek revenge on Uruguay.

There is a lot of emotions and history going into this game after the event that occurred ten years ago at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

In South Africa 12 years ago, Uruguay reached the semi-finals after ousting Ghana on penalties.

Uruguay forward Luis Suarez deliberately handled the ball on the goalline deep into extra time to prevent a certain goal, with Asamoah Gyan missing the subsequent spot-kick.

Despite Suarez's dismissal, Uruguay made the Africans pay in the shootout. Both sides are bidding to join Portugal in the last 16 from Group H, with South Korea still in the hunt.

“I don’t think going in for revenge will help. I think the Black Stars must stick to their game plan, and listen to the instructions from the technical team," Gyan said as reported by Citi Sports.

“Definitely, as humans, some may have revenge at the back of their minds, but it should not get into the heads of the players,” he added.

A win for Ghana will guarantee passage through to the round of 16, while a draw may be enough, provided Portugal avoids defeat against South Korea in the other group game.

The game will kick off at 15;00GMT.
