The Communications Director of the National Hajj Board, Abdulai Rahman Alhassan Gomda, has hit back at Hajj board Chairman, I.C Quaye for sidelining him on the board.

Alhaji A.R Gomda who was appointed by President Akufo-Addo to serve as the Communications Director of the Hajj Board expressed disappointment at the unilateral changes at the board by its Chairman, Sheikh I.C Quaye.

According to him, the looming chaos within the Hajj Board will overshadow the thrust of conversations that should have come out at this point in time; the Hajj package and matters arising.

Tensions at the Hajj Board reached a crescendo Tuesday as Sheikh I.C Quaye made some changes in the 11 member board who were mandated to serve on the Board for a four year period.

The development is brewing tension within the Board and the Zongo communities since some board members claim they are unaware of the changes in the leadership of the communication directorate.

The new head of communication Dr (Alhaji) Ahmed of Radio Universe was mandated to invite the media to the Board’s maiden press conference in 2018 on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 to announce “activities, programmes and package (fare) for Hajj 2018.”

Reacting to the development at the Hajj Board, embattled Gomda said the new appointee is only holding the fort insisting he[Gomda] is mandated to serve in that capacity as the Board’s Communications Director.

“It is the President who appointed me; and I am still the Communication Director,” he said in an interview on KasapaFM.

He added that he has petitioned the Presidency on the problems taking over affairs at the Hajj Board.

Sheikh Quaye and Gomda have had a long standing feud since last year after news broke about one Zak Rahman, a communication officer of the Board, who collected huge sums of monies from prospective pilgrims who could not travel to Mecca.

The former MP accused his spokesperson of being behind such publications aimed at undermining the Board, an allegation the veteran journalist denied.
