Accra Hearts of Oak youngster Selasie Bakai expressed delight with his debut performance in the 1-1 stalemate against Techiman Eleven Wonders last Sunday.

The recently promoted striker from Auroras, says he’s now looking forward to repaying the faith shown in him by head coach Henry Wellington.

Selasie hopes to build on his debut performance and become an important member of the squad.

“It was not bad playing my first game, it was good. I had a good experience because it was my first chance in the Ghana Premier League,” the 17-year-old told accraheartsofoaksc.com

“I have played in the lower sides so today I have played in a higher level so the performance was not bad. Based on the friendly matches we played with Sharks and Dreams, I had a little experience but this is the league.

“The league is the league and it is not a friendly match and when you practice something at training, you can do it. But this is the league because everybody – the coaches, supporters – wants victory and three points so we need to lift up our performance and everybody was wild on the pitch. That is the league. I was surprised I even started the game. I did not know and it was my first experience so will get better as the matches come.”

He added: “I appreciate the support from coach. It depends on the effort I have been putting in from the previous matches and how I play when I come in the second half [of our preseason games] that has made him have the trust in me to start me in the first match of the league [season]. I do not want to let him down at all. He knows this is my first match so he did not say anything bad; he said next time I should push up and I am going to work on that.”
