Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of IMANI Ghana, a policy think tank group has stated that, had he power in the country, he would have stated that, he will not agree to do any favour for the United States as long as Trump remains the President.

He said the terms of the agreement between Ghana and the United States when read, clearly indicates its a military base being set up, as it has be debunked by the Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul.

The Minister has stated that, the country cannot back out the agreement, while laying emphases on the fact that, the country had signed the terms in 1998 and in 2015, the current agreement is only a renewal.

He said, “We have already signed a 1998 agreement, we have signed the 2015 agreement and we have already caught ourselves in this net and we cannot back out because this is just a combination of the two agreements”.

Mr Bentil indicated that, if Ghana was any serious about the current slogan being hymned by President Akufo Addo, "Ghana beyond Aid", this would be the time to prove it.

He further stated that, the issue is more about self respect, and considering the treatment Ghana has received from the US recently, the country should have rejected the deal.

He said,"what is described in the agreement fits a military base if they want to set up one" and if government had been really serious with its 'Ghana Beyond Aid' agenda, it would have told off the Americans.

"If I had any power I would simply respond and say as long as Trump is in office I will do America no favours!!!! You can’t insult me denigrate me, deport me and still ask me to help you. This is how Ghana beyond aid should start. With self-respect!!".

The agreement between Ghana and the US which went viral on Monday March 22, 2018 brought a huge reactions from Ghanaians.

Some citizens have frowned on the action of the government while others have considered the benefits Ghana gets as a nation.

Considering the benefits the public are looking at, Mr Bentil has fired saying no matter the benefits Ghana gets, it will not avert the insults Ghana gets with its inception.

He said,"And I hear people tout the “benefits”. What nonsense!! I am a friend of USA but I don’t like them insulting us and I don’t like us allowing them."
