Swedish Allsvenskan side IF Elfsborg has announced the contract extension of former Ghana youth attacker Michael Baidoo ahead of the new season.

The 24-year-old, whose contract with the Yellow and Black lads would have expired in 2025, agreed to a new two-year deal after fruitful negotiations.

The club's official statement reads, "IF Elfsborg is pleased to announce that the association together with Michael Baidoo have agreed on a contract extension. The midfielder has signed a new deal that runs through the 2027 season."

Baidoo joined IF Elfsborg from a Norwegian second-tier league side in January 2022, having previously played for FC Midtjylland and FK Jerv.

The former Vision FC talismanic forward has been a key performer for IF Elfsborg since joining them two seasons ago, managing to score 14 goals and provide nine assists in 54 appearances for the club.

"It's a very good feeling! I've been here two years now and it feels great to sign an extension," Baidoo told the club's official website after signing the new deal.

"It has been a fantastic journey so far. I have developed a lot both as a player and as a person during these two years, and I am happy to be here. I always try to listen to the coaches and take the advice given. My goal is to develop every day and constantly get better."

"From the first day when I came here, everyone has treated me well, and everyone in the club is welcoming. You feel at home immediately. The support that the supporters give is also absolutely fantastic, and the club feels like a big family," he added.

The Ghanaian international played an instrumental role in IF Elfsborg's title chase campaign last season when they lost the Swedish Allsvenskan title to Malmo FF by goal margin.

Following his explosive performance, Baidoo was named in Ghana's provisional squad list for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) but was surprisingly left out by coach Chris Hughton.

Baidoo, who has represented Ghana at the U17 and U20 levels, is in line for a debut appearance for the Black Stars of Ghana.
