Following the 2017 Major League Soccer regular season and postseason, Columbus Crew SC announced its 2017 Team Awards and Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah scooped the OhioHealth Humanitarian of the Year.

In his first year in MLS, Jonathan Mensah was active in the Columbus community, donating time at multiple events with organizations like Make-A-Wish, Habitat For Humanity, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and others while also assisting in clinics for challenged youth from the Linden area and the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio.

Additionally, Mensah hosted a donation drive for new and gently used soccer equipment, which was brought back to children in Ghana via his own charitable initiative, the Jonathan Mensah Foundation.
