The Public Relations Officer of Asante Kotoko, Obed Acheampong has explained the reason why star defender Awal Mohammed’s name was surprisingly missing from the 26-man squad list the club submitted to CAF.

Mr.Obed revealed there was a prior agreement in place for the defender to move on at the end of last season in case a team from abroad came knocking.

The towering defender is therefore no longer part of the Kotoko roaster and has signed for Kuwaiti side Al Fahaheel.

Awal was not the only big name omitted from the squad, defender Ahmed as well as goalkeeper Ernest Sowah were also left out.

“Awal Mohammed negotiated, as part of his contract, to forfeit his signing on fee in return for Kotoko’s will to consider permitting his exit at the end of the season in the event that he earns a move abroad.”

“Having judged his service as praiseworthy, management permitted him join the new club as holding him bound to his February expiration date would have put his move in serious jeopardy.”

“He joined us under a special circumstance and we found his situation special enough to come to an understanding when he needed to move on,” he said.
