The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has charged Ghanaians to be champions of peace, unity and tolerance heading into the 2024 general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.

According to the Speaker, “this year is special in the country’s democratic journey and as we prepare for this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections, it is imperative that we reflect on the values that can guide us through the elections towards a more prosperous Ghana”.

Delivering his remarks at the Night of Power organized by the Muslim caucus in Parliament and held at the foyer of the chamber of Parliament on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, under the theme “Peace, Unity, and Tolerance: the Roadmap to Prosperous Ghana” the speaker noted that, the theme chosen for the occasion is not just a collection of words, but a clarion call for action.

He noted that, as the 2024 elections approach, Ghanaians must “pledge to be ambassadors of peace, champions of unity, and exemplars of tolerance, vote with conscience and accept the outcome with grace”.

Emphasizing the role of peace, unity and tolerance, Alban Bagbin mentioned that, peace, unity, and tolerance are not mere ideals; they are the building blocks of a prosperous Ghana.

“With peace, we can focus our resources on development and innovation. With unity, we can harness the collective strength of our people. With tolerance, we can foster an environment where every Ghanaian feels empowered to contribute. By prioritizing these values, we pave the way for a Ghana brimming with opportunity, where every citizen can thrive”, he added.

He further mentioned that, as we chart the roadmap to a prosperous Ghana, let us remember that our prosperity is measured not just in economic terms, but in the quality of our relationships, the stability of our institutions, and the health of our communities hence urge each and everyone within the halls and beyond, to be champions of peace, unity, and tolerance.
