Health crisis is looming for Ghana with mass suffering for patients as the country's Medical Laboratory Scientists are threatening to embark on a strike action over their conditions of service.

The health of patients in the country is in danger with the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists threatening to strike should government fail to address some their key concerns.

Their action could lead to the deaths of patients as the association claims the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service have failed to respond to their concerns despite several letters.

The body representing the scientists says they want a peaceful resolution in addressing to their issues to forestall any industrial action insisting they are unhappy about government's attitude towards their concerns.

“There is no legislative Instrument…, so the regulatory body existing now is handicapped and the profession is not being regulated appropriately,'' General Secretary of the Association, Michael Amoh-Omari said.

"Some of our cadres whose placement on the Single Spine was not properly done have been affected by the wrong placement, ” he added.

Some of the issues they have raised  include the lack of a National Laboratory Policy and legislative Instrument, the non-existence of specific revenue account and urgent need to appoint Directors of Medical Laboratory Services.
