The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD) has presented 100 laptops with cash prizes to Girls In ICT in the Eastern region.

The move by the Ministry is to break barriers in science and technology and improve ICT knowledge among young ladies at various schools in the country.

A hundred laptops were also given to beneficiaries who emerged victorious in the competition organized to assess their level of understanding.

Out of the hundred students, the top three beneficiaries in the competition were awarded a plaque each, a laptop each, and a cash prize ranging from Ghc3,000, Ghc2,500, and Ghc2,000 for positions of first, second, and third respectively.

The Sector Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful speaking at the ceremony indicated that the Girls-In-ICT initiative has enabled the students to develop games, animations, codes, scribes, and others.

According to her, the move by the ministry was to institutionalize and ensure the sustainability of the initiative, adding that plans were far advanced to set up a trust fund for the girls in the Information and Communication Technology program (Girls-In-ICT).

She said that the ministry would further implement the Girls-In-ICT in three more regions with a need to strengthen the coverage of more students across the country.

Ursula Owusu also pointed out that the Ministry has invited the Ministry of Education, MTN, and Vodafone among other agencies to be anchor members of the girls in ICT trusts fund.

Chairperson of the occasion, Omanhene of New Juaben, Nana Kwaku Boateng lll, expressed gratitude for the moves by the Ministry for training and boosting the morale of Girls in learning ICT.

Nana Kwaku Boateng said it was aimed at inspiring young ladies in ICT unlocking their interest in ICT at an early age and providing them with necessary resources to improve their well-being and career in education.

The Special Guest of honor, Rev. Dr Joyce Aryee, also encouraged the beneficiaries of the program and commended the minister for establishing such a legacy that would continue to empower more girls and young women for generations to come.
