The Minority in Parliament has accused the Minister of Defence Hon. Dominic Nitiwul of being arrogant and disrespectful.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Spokesperson for the Minority Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini has expressed how surprised he was over the Defence Minister in failing to apologise for the comments he made on regards tpo justify the burning of some 14 tipper trucks and an excavators which belonged to some illegal sand winners along the White Volta in Kumbungu Constituency in the Northern region.

Speaking on the issue, Hon. Nitiwul had stated that,  ‘This is not the first time that the Ghana Armed Forces or through the government has a decision to stop people through the use of force and burning’. Saying this, he recounterd on the floor of the house that, during the Mahama administration, the military took a similar action in Kumasi to protect the society.

Hon. A.B.A Fuseini while addressing the House said, ‘…You have done a reckless act which is causing government millions of cedis in judgement debt and then you come on the floor of Parliament and say you are doing more of the reckless act. Is this a Minister who should be in charge of the Defence Ministry? The Minister by his own statements is indicting himself about his competence in handling matters of this nature.

‘You have engaged in crass illegality and instead…[of] showing remorse and apologizing to the victims who are bearing the pain of having their machines illegally burnt, you don’t show remorse, you are exhibiting more arrogance. That is why I am saying that the Defence Minister is becoming more arrogant and increasingly reckless by the day’. He added.

The military working under Operation Vanguard who have been charged with the task of ensuring that illegal mining activities across the country burnt down tipper trucks and an excavator at the Kumbungu district belonging to some illegal sand winners in the area.

The Minority in Parliament has condemned the act of the Military saying it is a violation against the fundamental human rights to own properties.
