Akwasi Nsiah, host of Badwam on Adom TV, has voiced his displeasure with the increasing situation of how money is distributed among delegates and voters in Ghanaian elections.

The outspoken broadcaster claims that vote-buying has undermined our democratic system and made it impossible to elect the politicians who the public wants to represent them.

His comment comes after some New Patriotic Party (NPP) officials were spotted handing out GH¢50 GH¢20 and GH¢10 notes to some electorates during the Kumawu by-election.

Speaking about this on Asem Yi Di Ka on the Badwam show on Wednesday, Akwasi Nsiah emphasized how troublesome and worrying it is for political figures to use money to buy the public's conscience.

"When I heard it, I was expecting that they'd come out and deny it, but NPP officials actually confirmed on Adom TV live that indeed they gave TnT to some candidates in Kumasi to be able to come to Kumawu to cast their votes," he remarked as monitored by Ghanaguardian.com.

He also denounced a similar event that occurred when former President John Mahama distributed GH¢40 to delegates who took part in the National Democratic Congress (NDC's) parliamentary and presidential primaries held on Saturday, May 13, 2023.

"The last time, it was John Dramani Mahama, and as for him, he even published a statement to that effect. He gave each of the over 300,000 delegates GH¢40 so they could use it as their TnT to participate in the NDC primaries," he said, calling the practice "shameful".

Akwasi Nsiah lamented the fact that voters no longer have any value and are unaware of their civic obligations, which is why they take money from these dishonest politicians.

"With all due respect, I must say that as a nation, we are so dim-witted that we do not even understand our civic duties. If Ghanaians understood what voting was about, they wouldn't be accepting GH10, GH20, and GH40," he stated, adding that "both NPP and NDC members who accepted the funds didn't realize how much they were worth."

According to Akwasi, Ghanaians have earned the current generation of corrupt politicians who enjoy buying votes to gain access to politics because of their behavior.
