Telecommunications company MTN Ghana has put smiles on the faces of some nursing mothers who gave birth on Christmas and Boxing day in Kumasi by presenting gifts to them.

The network masters donated about 40 gifts in the form of hampers which contained varieties of drinks and baby products to the breastfeeding mothers at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Tafo and Suntreso Government hospitals.

After interactions with Ultimate Business after the exercise, Charles Osei Akoto, the Acting General Manager of MTN Northern Zone stated that the act was an annual occasion that his outfit uses to express love and support to new born babies and their mothers.

“It’s part of MTN’s culture that every Boxing Day we go and distribute these items to nursing mothers. We’re doing it in about 5 hospitals and they are Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Tafo Government Hospital, Suntreso Government Hospital in the Ashanti region. In the Greater Accra, it is happening at the Tema General Hospital and the Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern region.”

He continued that “the motivation is that Christmas is a time of giving or showing love and today being 26th a boxing day, we had to box something to share. We consider that these incoming ones are the ones that we would like to give these items to.”

MTN’s visit saw that 16 babies were born at KATH, while  the Suntreso recorded 2 births all on Christmas Day.

“We just want to touch lives. The feedback from KATH was that some people come in unprepared, so coming in at a time like this, is something really, we know will solve some of their problems”, the MTN Northern Zone Boss added.

On her part, Principal Midwifery Officer at the Mother and Baby Unit of KATH, Margaret Ama Obeng, on behalf of the Unit and the nursing mothers expressed their gratitude to MTN for sharing the love and blessings of Christmas with them.

The Telecommunication giant gave out 160 hampers nationwide. The hampers contained bath towels, antiseptics, soap, diapers, baby wipes and other baby products.
