The Nigerian army has warned "subversive elements and trouble makers to desist from such acts" as protests against police brutality entered the eighth day.

The protesters have continued with demonstrations despite the government disbanding the hated Special Anti-Robbery Squad, also known as Sars.

In a statement, the army spokesman said they will continue supporting President Muhammad Buhari and defend the country at all cost.

"All officers and men are directed never to be distracted by anti democratic forces and agents of disunity," read the statement.

Protesters have been calling for major police reforms despite the government setting up a new unit set up to replace the controversial Sars.
