A Nigerian senator has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for promising to help Ghana tackle corruption.
Mr. Ben Murray Bruce, who could not fathom why  Mr. Buhari made such promise, says the Nigerian Prresident has made himself "a laughing stock".

Mr Buhari made the promise in Accra on Tuesday where he was the Guest of honour at Ghana's 61st Independence Anniversary celebration.

Nigeria, the most populated country in Africa, is perceived to be the most corrupt among 60 countries evaluated, according to data from the 2016 Best Countries rankings

However Mr Buhari, in his speech, told the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, “your Excellency can be assured that you have a good partner in me as I look forward to any form of collaboration between Nigeria and Ghana in tackling the menace of endemic corruption.”

Reacting to the promise of the Nigerian president to Ghana on anti graft war, Senator Bruce, who represents the Bayelsa East constituency, in Bayelsa State, said in a post on his social media account that Buhari has not done enough in tackling corruption in his own country.

He advised Buhari to, through his actions, teach other West African countries how to truly fight corruption.

He asserted that what the Nigerian President has been doing back home is fighting opposition in the guise of anti corruption war.

He tweeted, “Rather than promise to help Ghana fight corruption, show by example that you are fighting corruption, and not opposition in Nigeria.”

Bruce also noted that corruption has been on the increase in Nigeria under President Buhari, as many members of of his cabinet have been indicted for corrupt practices.

He stated, “If corruption is increasing in your nation, you make yourself a laughing stock if you promise to fight it in another nation. Charity begins at home.”

The senator representing Bayelsa East stressed that the president's anti-corruption campaign is yet to achieve any result three years after it began.

“The major challenge facing President Buhari’s anti corruption war is that for almost three years, it has been delivering activity instead of delivering results,” Bruce said.

He added that  President Buhari has been making noise instead of making news and engaging in propaganda instead of setting proper agenda.
