In a quest to mark the 2023 Akropong Odwira festival celebration remarkably, the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), has supported the festival to strengthen relationships with the chiefs and the good people of Akuapem State, in the Eastern region.

NLA donated fifty (50) packs of bottled water, ten (10) crates of club wine, four bottles of schnapps, ten (10) crates of minerals and many other items to the Akuapem Traditional Council for the celebration.

The Director General of the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku explained that the Odwira festival celebration is the season where people exchange foods and other gifts.

Mr Awuku said that the festival celebration enables people to pay homage to the chiefs and queen mothers.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with DGN after the donation, Mr Awuku added that the Odwira Festival is a time for reflection and celebration.

Mr. Awuku used the opportunity to appeal to the youth to desist drug addictions and crime-related activities.

“Looking at the rise or increment of drug abuse we encourage and advise the youth to abstain from such illegal activities. We must engage the youth through the teachings concerning illegal drug addictions and other unrelated acts,’’ said Mr Awuku.

“They shouldn’t engage themselves in acts that will not benefit their future or have a positive impact on their lives. This period is where oneness is needed to connect in everything they do,” he urged.

The Odwira Festival is celebrated by the people of Akropong-Akuapem, Aburi, Larteh, and Mamfe in the Eastern Region.

It is celebrated annually from September through to October with a rich and colourful cultural heritage display.

The celebration brings unity among the people of Okuapemman.
