The spectacular Akwamu Homecoming (Nhyiamukɛse) 2017 ended at the weekend with a Grand Durbar and Thanksgiving service.

The 10-day colourful event hosted by Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, Akwamuhene under the theme, “Our History, Unity And Development” in Peace and Reconciliation, was a resounding success.

Indeed, after several years of being dormant, it seems the great Akwamu Kotoi has been awakened, infecting the people with a sense of joy, confidence and pride!

Under ideal weather conditions and with activities taking place in different locations, some ranging from the grounds of the world-class Royal Senchi Resort in Akosombo to the Bogyawe Palace at Akwamufie, hordes of people from across the country and those who have returned from abroad converged at Akwamufie to participate and connect with their heritage while enjoying a fun, engaging atmosphere.

Some of the highlights of the Nhyiamukɛse included the visit of HM Queen Margarethe II of Denmark on 25th November 2017, Museum exhibition of historical artefacts, a Moslem prayer service, a Grand Durbar and a Women’s Day hosted by the Akwamuhemea Nana Afrakomah II.

The Queenmother took the opportunity to encourage women to embrace their true potential as the glue that binds communities together, by engaging in productive pursuits.

The chairman for the grand Durbar occasion, Ehunabobrim Prah Agyenseim VI, Paramount Chief and President of Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Council, was joined by a host of dignitaries including former President John Dramani Mahama, Mr Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman; The Dodowahene Okukrubuor Nene Teye Kwasi Agyeman; Osabarima Ansah Sasraku Akuapem Mamfehene, Agogohemaa, Nana Oteng Korangteng II-Brekusuhene, and other chiefs from across the country.

Ehunabobrim Prah Agyenseim IV who is of the Aduana/Abrade family expressed his joy at being invited to grace the event and congratulated the organising committee for a well organised cultural showcase.

He pledged his continued support to Odeneho and his people, promising to further strengthen the relationship between two communities.

Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III thanked his elders, compatriots as well as everyone who lent their support in various ways to make the Nhyiamukese 2017 such a major success.

He again exhorted his people to come together with an agenda for development rather than expend resources and energy in actions that could be potentially destructive.

The Akwamuhene closed by invoking God’s blessings on the people, expressing the hope that the Nhyiamukɛse will serve as a source of inspiration to motivate them to do more for their communities.
