Some aggrieved persons whose buildings were demolished by the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) in 2014 at Sraha, Adjei Kojo, in the Tema West Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, have demonstrated against the TDC’s reluctance to implement a release order made by former President John Dramani Mahama, after their eviction.

A committee constituted by the former president to investigate the matter, said the over 500 victims did no wrong and recommended that the TDC release the property to back to them.

Staging a protest to drum home the need for the TDC to abide by the recommendation, the aggrieved group told Class News on Friday, 15 December 2017 that the said land has now been given to other individuals who were not victims of the demolition.

They alleged that the TDC and a committee set up by the then-parliament with Greater Accra Regional Lands Officer, Mr James Dadson as chairman, sold out the released lands to different people.

The victgims have threatened to demolish any building that may spring up on those lands.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Tema Sraha, Nii Abo Commey Dzorwolu, who calmed the protestors, said he was amazed at the conduct of the TDC.

He also denied any compensation paid to him by the TDC and assured the irate individuals to exercise restraint as authorities resolve the matter.

Responding to the allegations, the Head of Estates at the TDC, Kwasi Asare, said, in 2016, the former President directed that on humanitarian grounds, the squatters at Adjei Kojo whose houses were demolished be given some plots to develop.

He noted that TDC earmarked an area covering 11.50 acres for the resettlement at Community 24 Annex where 168 beneficiaries were settled.

He added that TDC did not play any role in selecting the specific people who were given the land for resettlement.
