RTU secured a dramatic victory in the opening game of the Ghana Premier League against Hearts of Oak at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Friday.

The game saw a late twist as RTU's Owusu Afriyie scored a last-minute header from a corner kick, leaving Hearts of Oak supporters stunned.

Hearts of Oak began the match with a high-pressing strategy and earned a corner kick within the first three minutes, but it resulted in nothing.

Despite creating several chances, the home team came close to scoring, but their efforts were denied by Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richard Attah.

Hearts of Oak appealed for a penalty in the 26th minute after Martin Karikari's shot appeared to hit an opponent's hand in the box. However, the referee instead called for an offside that had occurred earlier.

Four minutes later, a miscommunication between Kelvin Asibey and goalkeeper Richard Attah almost resulted in a goal for the hosts, but Mankuyeli fired wide.

Attah made another crucial save in the 36th minute to deny Lord Hillary Adabo from close range.

After a goalless first half, both teams returned cautiously, with no dangerous goal attempts in the early minutes.

Hearts of Oak settled into the game but failed to create any significant scoring opportunities despite maintaining possession in their half.

Real Tamale United stunned their opponents with a late, heartbreaking goal in the 93rd minute. Owusu Afriyie scored with a brave header from a corner kick, securing a 1-0 victory for RTU.

This result extended RTU's dominance over Hearts of Oak in their last five meetings.
