The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the WAFU B U-17 Cup of Nations convened on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, to expedite preparations for the upcoming sub-regional football tournament.

Chaired by Ghana Football Association Executive Council member, Gideon Fosu, the five-member committee held discussions at the Association's Headquarters in Accra, focusing on various organizational aspects of the championship scheduled from May 15-29, 2024.

Key agenda items included Security, Marketing, Communications, Transportation, Media, and Medical arrangements, with committee members deliberating on planning elements for each.

Additionally, the meeting entailed a review of the progress made in preparations for the tournament thus far.

Chairman Gideon Fosu elaborated on the meeting's objectives, stating, "This meeting basically looked at all the activities and items that the LOC is supposed to put together before, during, and after the tournament."

"We talked about security, the training pitches, venue for matches, the various things that need to be done at the stadium. Accommodation, transportation, spectatorship, and several other pertinent areas were discussed. We've been able to cover grounds," Fosu added.

Expressing optimism about the event, Fosu emphasized the committee's commitment to delivering an exceptional U-17 tournament experience.

"I think this will be the best tournament yet... Hopefully, Ghanaians and our West African counterparts will see a spectacular tournament in Accra," he affirmed.

The Committee, collaborating closely with a working group within the Football Association, has expedited processes and plans for the seamless execution of the tournament.

Seven countries, including Cote D’Ivoire, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger, Benin, and host Ghana, will compete for the trophy and tickets to the U17 Africa Cup of Nations next year.

Notable attendees at the meeting included Vice-Chairman Robert Otieku Duncan, Leslie Kuuku Bartels, President of Division One League side Victory Club Warriors, Deputy General Secretary Ama Brobey-Williams, and Director of Competitions Julius Emunah.

The tournament's draw, already conducted, placed host nation Ghana in Group A alongside neighbors Cote D'voire and Benin, while defending champions Nigeria will face Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo in Group B.

The LOC remains committed to delivering a high-quality football event that will ignite passion across the participating countries and the African continent at large.
