At least two people are in critical condition following a clash between residents of Shia, in the Ho Municipality, and officers of the Ghana Immigration Service stationed in the community.

According to youth leader Ekro Yao, the unrest in the border community began on November 14 when an immigration officer had a disagreement with some okada (commercial motorcycle) riders in the area.

The situation escalated into chaos on Friday, November 15, resulting in two residents sustaining severe injuries.

The injured individuals were rushed to a local health center, where they are receiving medical treatment.

An eyewitness, Kuzor Jonas, told Myjoyonline.com that armed Immigration officers stormed the community at around 4:00 PM on Friday.

In response, aggrieved residents blocked roads leading to the Immigration Service office and set lorry tyres on fire.

Shia is a border community in the Ho municipality.
