Workers of the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital who have been on a sit-down strike since Monday will today [Wednesday] activate full blown strike, withdrawing from work and hitting the streets with a demonstration.

This follows the authorities failure to address their grievances over the massive encroachment of the hospital land by private developers.

More than 200 patients on admission and thousands of outpatients will be left unattended to.

Since Monday, patients and their family members who have gone to the hospital from all across the country for medical attention have borne the brunt of the strike action as they are not attended to, leaving them stranded.

Other patients haven’t had their drugs administered to them. It is feared that some of these patients could relapse into their old condition which would be detrimental to their health.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Mental Health Authority, Dr Akwasi Osei has urged the Ministry of Health to step in immediately to end the impasse as the continues strike action is a threat to mental health delivery.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister Kweku Agyemang Manu is expected to be summoned before Parliament in the coming days to answer questions over the arrest at the Pantang Hospital.
