2025/26 GPL: ‘I’m not bothered by the noise’ – Kotoko coach Zito on his future
12th January 2026
Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has brushed aside speculation about his future at the club, insisting he remains calm and focused despite growing pressure following recent league setbacks.
The Porcupine Warriors dropped further ground in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title race after being held to a goalless draw by relegation-threatened Berekum Chelsea at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday. The result left Kotoko six points behind leaders Medeama, intensifying scrutiny on the team’s form.
In the build-up to the match, reports suggested Kotoko’s hierarchy were assessing Zito’s position amid concerns over inconsistent performances. Speaking after the game, the veteran coach acknowledged the rumours but showed little sign of unease.
“I can’t speak about tomorrow because, as you’ve mentioned, there are reports that management wants me out,” Zito said. “These recent results have made the situation more difficult, so if that is truly their intention, then the opportunity has presented itself now.”
Despite the speculation, Zito was clear that he has received no official indication from the club regarding his job.
“I am free to go to Nsawam today,” he added, in a remark underlining his calm outlook. “Throughout my coaching career, I have never been sacked, and I have neither seen nor heard anything from management suggesting they intend to appoint a new coach. Until the people who brought me here officially ask me to leave, I am not concerned about what is being said or reported on social media.”
With pressure mounting, Zito will be hoping to steady Kotoko’s campaign when they travel to Bibiani to face GoldStars in their Matchday 19 fixture at DUN’s Park on Sunday, as the Porcupine Warriors look to reignite their title challenge.
