Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has heaped praise on Black Stars head coach Otto Addo for guiding Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a campaign that showcased tactical maturity and resilience.

Ghana topped Group I with 25 points, sealing their spot at the global showpiece with a 1–0 win over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium. The achievement comes after the disappointment of missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, marking a dramatic turnaround under Addo’s leadership.

Speaking to Citi FM, Adams acknowledged past criticisms and revealed a light-hearted exchange with the coach:

“He’s done his bit, he’s done well, and we give him credit… Even Otto Addo himself, he wasn’t happy that I described his situation as… as lucky.”

Despite differing views on certain decisions, Adams commended Addo’s ability to deliver results under pressure, noting that his leadership has restored national pride.

Otto Addo becomes the first coach to qualify Ghana for consecutive World Cups, having also led the team to Qatar 2022 during his first spell.

His journey reflects tactical evolution, calm touchline demeanor, in-game adaptability and strategic squad rotation.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup Draw is set to take place on December 5, 2025 at the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts, Washington, D.C.

With qualification secured and leadership reaffirmed, Ghana now turns its focus to preparation, squad refinement, and ambition for a deeper run in 2026.
