Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, former Minister of Youth and Sports, has issued a passionate call for the Black Stars to deliver a statement victory against Comoros in their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday, October 12 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Despite Ghana needing just one point to secure qualification, Vanderpuye insists the match carries emotional weight and symbolic importance, given the team’s painful history with Comoros.

“Even if we lose, Madagascar would need to win by eight goals to overtake us, which is practically impossible,” he told Citi News Room.
“But we should still win against Comoros because of the painful defeat we suffered in the past. We have to prove to them that we are Ghana.”

Redemption Narrative

  • 2021 AFCON: Ghana eliminated after shock loss to Comoros

  • Matchday 2: Defeat in Moroni during current qualifiers

  • Sunday: Chance to rewrite the story and seal qualification

Ghana aims to join the elite ranks with a fifth World Cup appearance, having previously featured in the 2006, 2010, 2014 and the 2022 editions.

With history, pride, and redemption at stake, Sunday’s clash is more than a qualifier — it’s a national reckoning.
