A 23-year-old psychologist has been voted as the NDC's deputy treasurer for the Asuogyaman Constituency,securing 69% of the total votes.

Nasiba Asana Mohammed beat her opponent by over 400 votes in a two-horse race of women, a contest that was marked with satisfaction and jolity.

The former University of Ghana SRC Women Commissioner  won with 741 of the vote, compared with  302 of her opponent Beatrice Agbanyo with 19 of the votes being rejected.

She also served as women Commissioner for TEIN for the 2015/16 academic year and adds up to a large number of youth who have taken up leadership positions in the party.

"It is great opportunity for me now to contribute more to the NDC's 2020 agenda,"she told ghanaguardian.com

"The election was free and fair and was very interesting contest between two women as we take up executive positions in the party.

"My victory signifies my contribution to this great party in the past, looking at the key role I played in the constituency during the 2016 election."

She will now deputize Cephas Bobie who also won the treasurer position for the NDC in the only Eastern Regional constituency which it snatched from the NPP.

Saturday's election saw a greater number of youth contesting  leadership positions in the NDC as the party prepares for the 2020 elections.

The NDC won the Asuagyaman Constituency in the 2016 election, with candidate Mahama winning 50.67 of the total votes.

According to Nasiba, the party will have to do "extra work" to maintain the Asuogyaman seat and also restrategise to win more seats in the Eastern Region, which is an NPP stronghold.

Former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has already congratulated all winners in the party's Constituency Executive Elections held yesterday.

"Let us all forge ahead in unity to win massively in 2020; redeem Ghanaians from the increasing hardships; and ensure prosperity for all," he said in a statement.
