Three Ghanaian companies have been shortlisted among investors and companies across Africa who are to participate in this year's DEMO Africa event.

The three companies,Loystar,Iyris KO Ltd and Cocktail Insights were shortlisted among a final list of 30 startup companies for the DEMO Africa event after companies numbering over 700 applied for the entrepreneurial event.

Ghanaian companies have a good history of being shortlisted at the heavily-applied event. Companies such as MyeCampus, mPawa, Kuzima,Paysail, OzinboPay, KKYB, Boxbuzz, and Flippy campus have all made it DEMO Africa in the past.

DEMO Africa is one of the flagship initiatives of Lions Africa and aims to connect African startups to the global ecosystem.

Now in the fifth year, the event is scheduled from 22nd to 26th August 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The initiative has hosted 150 startups in the past four years raising more than US$14million in both investment and business value.

Among the shortlisted companies are startups from South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and ,Morocco with South Africa producing the highest number of representatives of  11 startups followed by Nigeria with 6, Kenya 5 and Ghana with 3.

The 30 finalist startup include companies specialising in logistics, education, banking and finance, agriculture, renewable energy among others.

The event is supported by the City of Johannesburg, the South African Department of Science and Technology. Other partners include Google, The World Bank, and African Technology Foundation.
